David Mellville co-founded Independent Shakespeare Co. with his wife Melissa Chalsma. In 2004 the company started producing outdoor shows which eventually became The Griffith Park Shakespeare Festival which plays to up 50,000 people annually and is now in its 21st year. As an actor, David has performed many roles for ISC including Hamlet, Richard III, Henry V, Macbeth, Iago, Titus Andronicus, Bottom, Julius Caesar, Feste, and Touchstone. David has directed numerous ISC productions including MACBETH, LOVE’S LABOURS LOST, TWELFTH NIGHT, JULIUS CAESAR, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA and AS YOU LIKE IT. In 2022 He directed a film adaptation of The Comedy of Errors which has won numerous awards at festivals including Best Director. As a composer, David has written music and songs for many ISC productions and he co wrote two original musicals: RED BARN and ANITA BERBER IS DEAD.
